Then my guess is that you are trying to use NMM to download a mod that is not compatible with NMM and has to be manually downloaded and installed.
Manual downloads are. Once you download and unpack the files to Docs or your desktop either copy and paste or drag and drop the mods files into your New Vegas game folder, in the "data" subfolder. If anyone stumbled apon this discussion and is looking to fix it right click nexus mod manager hit run as administrator then go to settings and untick Associate with NXM URLs hit ok and then go back to settings and retick it and then hit ok and it should fix it.
